And you, little guy, you wanna be an elephant when you grow up, Save the elephants shirt. You are an elephant because this is Zootopia – where anyone can be anything. I have never squealed more in my life than I did during that moment of the movie. That little toot! God is real! Whenever I am in a painful meeting at work, I google “pit bulls in pajamas” on my iPad in order to maintain my will to live. At first glance, I thought the ears were this dog’s front legs and that it had its paws tucked behind its head all relaxed and casual. Yao Ming also crusaded against shark fin harvesting, leading a massive decrease in their consumption. The man is a genuine hero for animals. His influence with hundreds of millions of Chinese youth is both immense and positive.

I know it’s based on texture because I’ve actually had an artificial shark fin at a fancy Chinese restaurant. Save the elephants shirt. I was told it tasted like the real deal too, so I do agree that killing actual sharks for it is stupid. This isn’t the entire story. I’ve read a number of different strategies that have been implemented such as the fake ivory producers who produce artificial ivory to try to flood the market, bring down the price, and reduce poaching and deaths. Besides the old tried and true methods involving bone, there are also start-ups using 3D printers and biotechnology to produce fakes that better match the density and consistency. This could be shifting supply out and therefore helping to drive down prices. It depends, it’s also possible that the poachers will be forced to slaughter more elephants to make up for the lower prices. If there is no other work available, poaching will continue at those prices.

This was my first thought as well. Save the elephants shirt. I can only believe lower prices will bring more people into the market as they can now afford it. There might be some unintended consequences to this if it hits low enough. People might buy more thinking prices will rise, lower prices can mean more buyers, etc. I’m interested in how this will turn out. Hopefully, the campaigns do enough to kill actual demand though. Under traditional models, two things can bring the price down. A decrease in demand or an increase in supply. If the demand increases due to the lower price point, in the long term the price will rise again.

So you’re right that the short-term consequences could be a rise in demand without the corresponding increase in price. Save the elephants shirt. Also, If more poaching happens, the price will drive down further due to excess supply, so I don’t think that would be a long-term effect that we’re likely to see either. But the lower prices are likely caused by a decrease in demand, which by definition means fewer people are trying to buy it. If there’s another driver for the low prices, you could be right, but thankfully I doubt that is the case. And I think you’re right. If the actual campaign can lower demand then that can help explain lower prices. However, if lower prices help break the market then there are many entrants. Ivory used to be an expensive thing and still is a status symbol.
