You missed a big difference between the two Patagonia Capilene Cool Daily shirt offerings; fit. The tropic sun has a baggy fit and the daily is a bit more regular. I have a Cabelas one I bought for 30 bucks and it has worked great for years of trail running mountain biking and spring ski touring. Don’t forget to check out fishing companies, they have all sorts of sun wear. Yes. I prefer the baggy cut of the Tropic Comfort for more airflow. I can’t swear to it but I think the hood might have been deeper too.

Columbia used to make the Blood and Patagonia Capilene Cool Daily shirt hoodie, which had a tiny logo on the chest and nothing else. Built-in thumb loops, a really good hood that was nice and deep, no buttons or snaps. It was incredible, but it’s disappeared. I keep hoping it’ll come back this summer. Been a fan so far. The fit is nice, on the baggier side. Not a fan of the button. Would prefer zipper or drawstrings. I got it on sale but generally wouldn’t drop the retail price on it. I’ve really liked the new BD Alpenglow, which is different than the one you linked. They’ve updated the fabric and it’s pretty great, supposed to have fancy cooling/infrared blocking tech. Not sure about all of that, but it works really well. The hood is also excellent, and sun protection is perfect. No thumb holes, but I prefer that. I really like it. I haven’t tried it out on a hike yet, but it feels really high quality and is lightweight. It has a nice loose cut and is stretchy enough to allow for a full range of motion.

You are doing good work. It’s a great Patagonia Capilene Cool Daily shirt. I would love a button up version though. I’ve considered buying an XL and slicing it down the middle to turn it into a button-up. This would add some breathability. I love it already though. Just bought a Patagonia tropical hoody and used it on a day hike today. I dont think I will ever look back. I had to go a size up to use the thumb holes because the sleezes streched and felt weird. The only thing that I would want is a quarter zip. If you find one let me know. It’s much warmer in my experience than the Patagonia Tropic Comfort. The double thickness front is not a good design feature in my opinion. Also, it got funky fast whereas the Tropic Comfort is less stinky. Yeah, it does a good job of covering down to about my knuckles. If I fished saltwater flats, it would be a required feature, but I Simms fishing wear sun gloves in the height of the day right now anyway, but it’s also helpful for deterring persistent black flies who want my salty sweat or whatever they’re attracted to.
