What’s to stop an unscrupulous company from creating a brand with shit ingredients or other shady practices. And when something comes out identifying them as bad (or maybe even just less than favorable Yelp reviews), killing that brand and spinning up a new one. They may have to refund a few customers, but it will still be more profit for them. How will people know if these are digital concepts vs. brick and mortar? What will distinguish them exactly? Will the average consumer ordering know the difference? Presumably, some of the appeals of this business model are that you cannot tell the difference without a bunch of research.

So you say people would go elsewhere if the quality was crap. Ok, so a few people do that, maybe leave bad reviews. Meanwhile, the parent company and delivery service have already profited. So again, I don’t see how this is anywhere close to a self-correcting issue unless. It’s in the delivery app’s best interest to offer high-quality food, and, on Uber Eats, for example, every establishment is rated by its customers.

I like tacos beer & maybe 5 people shirt think all that combined will balance things out and keep shady virtual restaurants honest and quality establishments successful. Ultimately, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with virtual restaurants from the standpoint of “just a kitchen, no tables, fulfilling through delivery.”. The thing I take issue with is the branding and identify the piece. It needs to 100% be transparent to the user who the hell the actual people behind a given establishment are. They can have multiple “channels” or “themes” but if Virtual Restaurant Inc. has 50 brands. Period.
