What about the unfortunate thin person without weight to lose that develops type 2 diabetes? I’m A Diabetic If You Can Read This Please Pick Me Up And Feed Me Chocolate shirt. A 14 day fast seems a bit rough. I suppose such a person can bulk up a bit before the fast (diabetes be damned for a few weeks) and then give it a go for 2 weeks. Very interested to see your results once you start eating anything again. For some, the “dawn phenomena” high fasting morning sugar is the toughest part to beat.
What is diabetes?
I’m a thin guy, mid-30s, and my morning blood sugar has crept up into the upper 90s/low 100s from the 80s back in my 20s. Not diabetic, yet, I guess, but maybe a cause for alarm. My post meal sugars are normal. I’ve done long stretches of very low carb and it had no effect on morning numbers. I did a 72-hour fast earlier this year and by 60 hours my morning reading was in the low 60s and it stayed there until I broke the fast that night. This was the first time a “diet” caused a change in my morning glucose reading. But when I started eating again it was back into the 90s/100s within 2-3 days. Clearly, 72 hours wasn’t enough to fix anything. But at 5’10” 155lbs, a 14 day fast would not leave me looking healthy. I’ve never seen a type 2 person who was actually skinny. There are “skinny fat” types, where they carry belly fat but aren’t fat anywhere else, but they never truly skinny. But even if it were true, skinny people can fast no problem.

I hope you don’t take this approach with every medical issue you may have. Not trying to be a dick, just genuinely hope you don’t have this mindset through and through. While fasting is great, it is not a cure-all nor is it a panacea for any and all problems you may have. I don’t know I saw how you wrote it and immediately assumed you were not joking so I apologize. I’ve just seen a lot of pseudoscience BS on here with people saying similar things to what you said in your OP and I couldn’t help but feel a little annoyed because I was just thinking “oh no not another one”. Thanks for the info. I recently got back on metformin, since under normal circumstances it doesn’t cause low blood sugars and I have never had any side effects with it.

I was more than willing to. I’m A Diabetic If You Can Read This Please Pick Me Up And Feed Me Chocolate shirt. I mostly do ADF, but I want to mix in some longer fasts, and I did have a 3 day fast after I got back on Metformin end b/c I woke up after a nap on day 3 with some low blood sugar symptoms. I am already eating a ketogenic diet and was already fully keto/fat adapted (keto for ~3 months with no cheats leading up to this) at the time. Next long fast I attempt I will stop taking it and see how it goes. Having been to medical school and researching fasting for over a year, I’m aware of potential hypoglycemia that can result.
