I’ve stayed a weekend there and I believe this. The picture he paints of the whole place from the makeshift property lines to the library, internet cafe, the different types of residents and Asian girl tourists are 100% accurate. Riveting tale, my man. I’ve spent many days at Slab City as a visiting tourist, trying to research for a (fictional) story of my own. Your one night there made for a story ten times more interesting. The people out there are violent, desperate, and have nothing to lose. Are you sure you didn’t upset someone unwittingly though? They chased you with a real vendetta.

To be honest, considering your account was created a week prior to this post, and the effort and quality of the writing, this sounds to me like a made-up story. But if it is, I really enjoyed reading it. I did end up looking more into slab city just out of curiosity as a result. and it’s kind of cool to imagine your movements on Google Earth. If its not made-up, I’m sorry you went through that. That sounds downright terrifying.Either way, I hope you post this to bigger subs. I feel like its worth reading and should get more exposure.

If you’re going to go to Slab City, go with a big group, and then it’s tremendous fun, since you’re not going to get hassled, Hippie car on a dark desert highway cool wind in my hair shirt. And you can do nonsense like this. Also, stay in Hitchhiker’s Camp which is the flat land to the West of Salvation Mountain, and is where visitors are supposed to stay.Also also, get there during the day, so you have the chance to set up camp and get the lay of the land.But yeah, showing up alone and largely unarmed in a place where law enforcement is only marginally interested may not be the best plan. At the very least, reach out to some of the folks on the numerous Slab City Facebook pages, so you’re in contact with a couple of locals before you show up. They hate the violent tweakers as much as anybody. This is the best (worst?) story I’ve ever read on reddit.

During what I now see as my interrogation at the internet cafe, I basically told everyone that I was alone, traveled a great distance, didn’t know how long I’d be staying, elduded to nobody knowing where I was and flashed little cash. You know, EVERYTHING anybody with an ounce of street smarts would never do. I earned my new found street smarts in one of the worst ways possible. Easy money is easy, ya know, That’s just great Jeremy…take care of a dog, but completely ignore and neglect your children and wife you just abandoned with no warning 7 months ago. Real classy….we really appreciate it! :/
