Huge water swells don’t really happen at sea outside of crazy situations and large cruise ships can weather them pretty damn well. On top of this – you are on a mobile island with an engine – it can opt to go another direction and avoid the storm entirely. Have you never seen the movie about the boat in the water, when a storm hits? You know, the one where everyone/almost everyone dies out at sea? Heh. One thing about some of these vacations, they’ll even include food, etc. Play it right, and seriously, you can live on a traveling vacation for less than it costs to just live in a normal house/apt/etc. I’ve known people to have nearly no permanent address and their cost of living is lower than mine.

So you’re saying if you saved a little over 1% every month, you could afford to go on a cruise once a year. And if that’s too much, you could definitely afford to go once every two or three years? you’re not dirt poor if you can save for a vacation and not need the money for something else.. if all your other needs are accounted for, like clothes and kitchen appliances and stuff and you *still* have money to save, you’re not dirt poor. You need the vacation when you’re dirt poor.

You float bills, you skip a meal a couple times, you saved the 1.50 to put in the “vacation” fund. Grinch life is good enjoy the ride jeep shirt. Little things add up. Extra odd jobs, like being the dirt-poor guy who is good at painting, you make an extra $50. Takes months and months, but you finally get the 1k to go on vacation with your family of 4.
