800 is an estimate. Don’t mess with me I have a crazy grandma cuss a lot very hard shirt. Actually, 832 has been documented. Png has more than 800 languages. It is said that they have roughly a thousand plus languages. Having said that, Papua New Guinea has a population of 8 million. What is India’s again? Are they related to each other? I’m only asking as I come from Europe and have no clue. Like Slavic languages are related, so many people in Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia or the Czech Republic do speak Russian or understand it to an extent. English is Anglo-Sachsen, so many Germans speak or learn English easier than others. I am Hungarian and my language isn’t related to any of those. I speak Hungarian, English, German and learning now Swedish. Three of these are absolutely not or just slightly related. How about those that you speak? I only ask it in a sense of learning difficulties. I’m not sure if it’s easier to learn something that is similar to your languages cos of the tiny and fine differences you might miss sometimes, whilst learning a completely new and unknown language is as well hard. Anyway, congrats on your skills.
Georgia Szollosi Assamese, Bengali, and Nepali do sound similar and are related. Don’t mess with me I have a crazy grandma cuss a lot very hard shirt. Assamese shares a similar script with Bengali although certain pronunciations are different. Georgia Szollosi some are, some aren’t. Like Marathi and Hindi is similar, Aditya and Bengali is similar, Punjabi and Haryanvi is similar, also south Indian languages are very diverse but somewhat similar. But if u contrast each region they are totally different. North Indians find it difficult to grasp south Indian languages. Likewise, west Indians find northeast languages difficult. But English is the common given in all regions. James Maino man, please. india have 1.3 billion people (which is not a thing to be proud of).. and in India there are many Tibetan tribe (mainly in the region of Ladakh and Northeast India) many of them are unrecognized…

The approximate number of our languages are documented by linguistics across the world – 800+ is the number of languages that are distinct and not related to each other as documented. Don’t mess with me I have a crazy grandma cuss a lot very hard shirt. We have several dialects that makeup one language; for example, my Mother’s language has 8 different dialects, the dialect we speak is shared with 5 villages only and then there is only 1 Province where the entire area speaks 1 language only. Our 4 official languages are English, Polis Motu, Tok Pisin (Pidgin) and Sign Language. Jay Esmeralda Yr Filipino? Yeh it’s true they piss every way n shit everywhere too but they also lead in technology, send aircraft to Mars, most number of IT experts, doctors the list goes on, n your country?
Barnali, we speak completely different languages from one another. Don’t mess with me I have a crazy grandma cuss a lot very hard shirt. you cant event understand and we are not talking slightly different languages. Thanks for Na Daily reporting. Love it!!! I spent five years living in PNG; 2 in the Islands region and three in the Highlands. The country is so diverse and beautiful! People assume, because most of the cultures are tribal, that they are simple, but the languages (not dialects!!) are so complex and so very different from each other. It can take outsider years to learn just one of them. I know the trade language and a few phrases from a few of the languages but all the people I know there are fluent in many. So impressive! Thanks for featuring this amazing country and her fabulous people.
