I have the base game (and backed the expansion) and I can say it’s not that bad. Definitely a hard to teach the game because there are so many moving parts which get linked together with a complex finale, but once it gets going, everything plays so smooth. After the first turn is played, even the first time players can quickly make their decisions. Game’s theme helps players here because every action you take makes complete sense. Setting this game up where no one else knows the game is quite the chore though, especially with the starting equipment selection (there’s a recommended section for these selections in the rulebook, though putting all equipment for everyone by yourself still takes a bit of time).
